I’m Bondy

I am a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Leeds working on MUSICSTREAM: Music Culture in the Age of Streaming (ERC funded 2021-2026) with Prof David Hesmondhalgh, Dr Raquel Campos Valverde and Dr Zhongwei (Mabu) Li.

I am author of TikTok: Creativity and Culture in Short Video, co-written with Jing Zeng and Patrik Wikström, the first scholarly monograph on TikTok published by Polity Press in 2022. I research music, cultural policy, and digital platforms. My work is informed and influenced by decolonizing scholarship. I lodged my doctoral dissertation on the Myanmar music industry in 2021.

I have published peer-reviewed articles on (mis)attribution, parallel platformization, and visibility moderation on TikTok, cultural policy in Myanmar, playful patriotism in China, content creators and media censorship in India, and copyright gossip on YouTube.

I am drummer, bassist, and co-songwriter for the band Parallel Path.
